AIAC endorses one-year moratorium on controlled goods user fees

Jim Quick, President and CEO of AIAC, has released a statement in response to an announcement on May 28th by the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, that user fees on the Controlled Goods program would be lifted for one year:
On behalf of the members of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC), I would like to commend Minister Finley and the government for lifting user fees on the controlled goods program for the next year. This is something that AIAC has called for in our discussions with the government, and we are very pleased that they have listened and taken action.
The formula that is currently in use creates a disadvantage for small companies, acting as a barrier for small companies seeking to enter fields covered by the controlled goods program. The government’s decision to lift these fees for the next year will allow these companies greater opportunities to expand their businesses and enter new fields. This is excellent news for not only small businesses, but the aerospace industry as a whole, whose long-term global competitiveness relies on the ability of small and medium-sizes enterprises to grow quickly, scale the supply chain, and access new markets.
These actions follow on the government’s leadership last year in reducing the size and scope of the Controlled Goods Schedule. Together, these actions clearly demonstrate the government’s commitment to lean and efficient regulatory and export controls that make it easier for industry to conduct global trade and access new markets. We applaud the government’s leadership, and thank Minister Finley for her support on this important file.
