Feb. 6, 2008- The management of Air Médic has responded to a comment made by the Quebec minister of health on the issue of helicopter ambulance use in the province.
In a radio interview this week, Philippe Couillard said that in the case of highway accidents he does not recommend the use of helicopters to assist those who are injured.
Air Médic responded to the comment by pointing out that Québec is the only place in North America where this type of ambulance service is not integrated into the health system.
The organization, which has lobbied for several years to be recognized by the government, does not see the minister’s comment as creating an obstacle to obtaining official status.
