Airwork receives TC STC’s for BK117

Sept. 3, 2014, Auckland, Nz. - Airwork has announced it has recently received Transport Canada Supplemental Type Certificates (STC’s) for the BK117 Particle Separator, Lightweight High Density Seating and 1,200 kg Cargo Hook.
These STC’s complement Airwork’s existing Transport Canada BK117-850D2 STC, which exchanges the Honeywell -750 engine’s for higher powered -850 engine’s. The BK117-850D2 STC is also approved by EASA, FAA and NZCAA.
These combined Supplemental Type Certificates have been developed and installed by Airwork with a view to providing operators with a built for purpose Cat A, Class 1 compliant Utility Helicopter with usable performance at MAUW and have proven to deliver to operators a cost effective alternative ideally suited for onshore oil and gas support, firefighting and general utility roles.
The versatile BK117 has been the proven performer for many years and Airwork are proud to continue the tradition and introduce the BK117-850D2 as a solution for those operators who need the performance, but are clearly not in the new helicopter market.
To date over 30 helicopters have been converted to BK117 -850D2 status, in Canada, Australia, Africa, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.
There are now three of the light weight twin-engine BK117-850D2 helicopters operating in Canada, with launch customer Great Slave Helicopters, on utility operations. The first helicopter was upgraded in Canada to -850D2 status and the two that followed were completed to the customer specifications in New Zealand at Airwork’s completion centre and were delivered to Canada complete with Transport Canada Certificates of Airworthiness.
