CAMC has evolved over the last year to become a vital and effective proponent of the Canadian aviation and aerospace industry.

June 7, 2007 – Earlier today I notified the Co-chairs of the CAMC Board of Directors of my intention to resign as the Executive Director of CAMC. Over the last year I have received such positive support from the CAMC membership that I felt it important to inform you immediately. I will continue to offer tactical leadership to CAMC over the coming months and, after a suitable transition time, finish up by the Annual General Meeting in October.
As with any decision such as this, my reasons are multifaceted. I will try to explain them as succinctly as possible.
To begin with, CAMC has had a rapid period of change and is now solidly set in its strategic direction. We have under contract or under negotiation more projects then we have ever had at one time in our history. A new management structure has defined responsibilities and accountabilities measuring monthly what CAMC has produced. Our corporate membership has increased by more than 300% since January 2006 and our individual membership has stabilized at about 1,550. The balance sheet continues to be healthy, with more cash on hand and more money invested than a year ago. We are about to market new corporate and individual membership benefits. Our certification, accreditation, auditing and evaluating processes have been revamped and are now at the standard that all CAMC members expect. The organization now needs a period of calm to catch its breath and secure the gains it has made. Those of you who know me understand that this is not one of my strengths.
Manoeuvring successfully in a bureaucratic and political environment is a very special and enviable skill. I admire people that can work in that environment and suspect that it takes both an aptitude and a few years of experience to feel comfortable there. I do not feel comfortable in that setting and I’m sure others could do a more competent job.
Finally, the global aviation and aerospace sector is brimming with operational and commercial opportunities. This is the environment in which I feel comfortable and can make a significant contribution. Global reach and dominance in areas in which we have competitive advantage is what Canada’s aviation and aerospace companies are focused on, and should be focused on, to ensure that our industry remains strong.
I believe that CAMC has evolved over the last year to become a vital and effective proponent of the Canadian aviation and aerospace industry.
