Dec. 20, 2007, St. Louis, Missouri– Aerospace Filtration Systems, Inc.
(AFS) has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from Transport
Canada (TC) for an Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system for
Turbomeca-powered Eurocopter AS350 helicopters.

AFS IBF-equipped AS350 helicopters can freely operate with no flight or gross weight restrictions.  The recently approved FAA and TC Flight Manual Supplement for the AFS Turbomeca-powered AS350 IBF allows operation to basic inlet and sand filter performance charts based on power check results.  AFS representatives said paperwork is also being submitted for European EASA approval of the AS350 barrier filter, extending the AFS solution for more operators outside the continental US.  The system is already in use on AS350s under an FAA STC and also for Canadian operators under a Soloy/Honeywell conversion STC.

The IBF system for the AS350 features an easily removed flat filter assembly and integral bypass design, readily mounted on the existing cowl without burdensome cowling alterations.  A filter maintenance aid allows for on-condition status checks between established cleaning intervals, eliminating unnecessary service.  No restrictions are imposed for flight in falling or blowing snow or with visible moisture in non-icing conditions.  Users of the AFS IBF systems realized significantly better engine protection and performance than that offered by traditional sand filters or improved inertial particle separators.  AFS and its parent Donaldson Company lead the industry with innovative and state-of-the-art inlet protection technologies.
