Conservatives rip Ornge over another costly delay

May 16, 2012  By The Canadian Press

May 16, 2012, Toronto - The Progressive Conservatives say there's been another case of Ornge air ambulance failing to respond in time.

The Tories say the latest incident occurred a week ago when the call
went out for an air ambulance to transport Judy Dearman from a hospital
in Barry's Bay to an Ottawa hospital.

An hour later Ornge advised an air ambulance was not available and said Dearborn should be transferred by a land ambulance.

The 69-year-old woman was in a coma by the time she arrived in Ottawa and died Friday.

Opposition critic Frank Klees says it's the second time in as many weeks that Ornge has been involved in a fatal incident.

Dearman's son Scott says he's concerned about the long delay in dispatching an air ambulance to transport his mother.

Health Minister Deb Matthews warned the Tories to let the experts
determine exactly what happened before jumping to conclusions about
Ornge.
