Coptersafety has appointed Erkka Suvikumpu as chief executive officer effective May 13, 2019, succeeding interim CEO Christer Niemi, who held that position since December 2018. Suvikumpu previously served as CEO Safera Oy, where he was a co-owner, which focuses smart home sensor and fire prevention solutions.

“Erkka has a broad understanding of the aviation industry and a strong knowledge of developing digital businesses,” said Antti Keränen, chairman of Coptersafety. “He has proven experience in leading people and larger organizations and also managing complex entities. Erkka’s latest track record in leading a significant transformation at Safera demonstrates his leadership skills. I am confident his solid international business-to-business background will help in growing Coptersafety’s operations.

Suvikumpu, age 48, has been the CEO of Safera since 2017 and has worked more than 10 years in various business development and new venture related VP level positions for Finnish airline Finnair Plc. The last position he held was vice president, business development & quality, Technical Division. Suvikumpu has a degree from Aalto University School of Business in Helsinki, Finland.

“Coptersafety is a remarkable company. They have a totally unique approach to improving the safety culture in the rotor industry. I am really proud of joining a team like this, fostering a mission with such vital importance, literally,” said Suvikumpu.
