Ornge opts for Navtech flight planning

November 23, 2010  By Carey Fredericks

Nov. 23, 2010, Toronto - Through a  three-year agreement, Navtech, Inc. will provide flight plans and flight following services for Ornge Air, an acclaimed air medical transport company based in Ontario, Canada.

Ornge is Navtech’s first air medical transport customer – further evidence of the growing diversity of Navtech’s customer base.

“Ornge provides the critical link between where patients are and where
they need to go,” said Rick Potter, Chief Operating Officer, Ornge Air.
This is crucial to our cause, where every second matters.”

Each year, Ornge transports approximately 22,000 critically ill and
injured Ontarians from all over the province by land and air to
hospitals in Ontario offering patients a higher level of care..   A
not-for-profit, charitable organization, Ornge is responsible for
screening all transfers of patients between hospitals in Ontario, and
for airlifting critical trauma patients from “scene calls” – accident
and injury sites across the province.

Ornge operates its land, rotor and fixed wing vehicles from twelve bases
across Ontario’s mobile hospitals: with sophisticated medical equipment
on every vehicle, Ornge works not only to ensure patients are treated
while in transit – its teams also cut patient transport time
drastically.  Working in helicopters and airplanes, Ornge pilots and
paramedics can reach patients even in the most remote reaches of the
province.

Ornge’s current fleet consists of critical care land ambulances for
shorter transports, six Pilatus PC-12 airplanes, and eleven Sikorsky S76
helicopters, which are in the process of being replaced by ten
top-of-the-line AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters with customized medical
interiors.  Navtech excels in providing its aviation services to
diversified fleets like that of Ornge and others.

Navtech’s flight planning services are renowned for their flexibility
and tailoring to fit the specific needs and operational philosophies of
virtually any airline.  Navtech customers value not only the system’s
fit into their operational style, but the multidimensional cost
optimizing models that flight plans  enable aircraft to operate in the
most cost efficient manner.
