FMS is excited to announce that the Miami Police Department has accepted delivery of our first completely coupled mapping system using a FLIR Ultra 8000 gimbal.

FMS is excited to announce that the Miami Police Department has accepted delivery of our first completely coupled mapping system using a FLIR Ultra 8000 gimbal.
A comprehensive four page Acceptance Document, with stringent pointing criteria was exercised over a two day series of test flights in Miami. All six members of the voting panel voted positively in favor of the FMS Moving Map system.
The tests were flown at 500 Feet AGL, 60 Knots, within 400 feet of the target address. FMS was able to keep the gimbal within a 125 foot radius at all times, hands free.
What this means is that in a standard orbit, and having the FLIR zoomed in so only 3 houses are on screen, the target house stays on the screen without operator input.
Flight Management Systems has achieved an accurate, map driven slave for gimbals. The supported gimbals, so far, include FLIR Systems Ultra 7000, 7500, 8000, 8500, and Sea FLIR II; the Tamam POP 200 and 300 series, as well as the Wescam 14.

Air Beats October Technology Issue asked crews for an IDEAL cockpit wish list.
FMS is now able to cover 3 of the 11 wishes.
1.    “An integrated mobile data terminal to link the calls for service information with the moving map and FLIR”.
2.    “Digital mapping displays (location) of existing calls and the information concerning those calls”.
3.    “Dual screens for the pilot and TFO. A true slaving system between the FLIR, Map and searchlight. The current systems do not really work.”

FMS has been producing GIS (Geographic Information Systems) based, GPS coupled, Moving Map Systems since 1999. FMS uses GIS data for their systems exclusively because they recognize the power and the increasing availability of data. Ortho Photo layers provide a daytime picture of the Target address so ground crews can be safely directed to positions.
GIS gives the user improved accuracy, flexibility and options unavailable with conventional systems using scanned in paper maps. The ability to display underwater features, fire footprints, and collect data on the fly for later review and debriefing are just some of the advantages. Powerful options like linking addresses to phone numbers, occupant names, and existing threat level data, (or building your own database on the fly), are available. FMS runs in a familiar Windows environment and requires minimal training. Most FO’s are comfortable with the system by the end of their first shift. FMS is compatible with any Windows based software.
FMS provides a powerful and affordable solution.
