Helicopters help aid Okanagan cherry growers

Growers in the Okanagan are working overtime to dry their crops after a storm brought heavy rain to the region.
Gatzke Orchards, located in Oyama, had tractors and a helicopter out to help dry their cherry crops and stop the fruit from soaking up water and bursting.
“The blowing of the cherries, whether it is with a helicopter, a tractor-mounted blower, or sprayer, the blowing has to do with the water collecting on the trees,” said Alan Gatzke of Gatzke Orchards. “In a thunderstorm when it’s really windy, it’s often not as important, but on Monday it was a calm rain, which is high risk.” | READ MORE
