July 17, 2009 – United Rotorcraft Solutions (URS), ALEA Booth #401, will display the MD500 instrument panel mock-up with the Sagem ICDS-8 Integrated Cockpit Display System currently in work for certification.

With the cooperation and support of Sagem Avionics Inc. (SAFRAN Group) and MD Helicopters, URS has developed the integration and is in the process of certifying the ICDS-8 for the MD500 helicopter. This program will remove the standard instrumentation and replace them with a Sagem 8.4 inch Primary Flight Display (PFD) and a Multi-Function Display (MFD) that interfaces with aircraft systems to provide a centralized display for integration, computation, and control.

What this does for the MD500 is eliminate electro mechanical instruments that require repair, allow the display of information such as moving map, terrain awareness, traffic and weather on the MFD; with heading, navigation, altitude, Rad Alt and Air Speed on the PFD. The caution warning system will also be displayed on the MFD.

The goal is to reduce the pilot work load while enhancing safety and situational awareness.
