Air Methods announces new Wyoming LifeFlight base
March 2, 2015, Denver, Co. - Air Methods Corporation has announced a new Wyoming LifeFlight base in Sheridan, Wyo. is set to open in April 2015. The helicopter air ambulance base will be located at Sheridan Memorial Hospital to help reduce the time it takes to transport a patient to a tertiary care facility.
“We are very excited to partner with Sheridan Memorial Hospital,” said Chris Burns, regional vice president of Air Methods. “We saw an increased need for air medical care in the region, and this new base is an opportunity to better serve communities across Montana and Wyoming.”
The Wyoming LifeFlight base will be staffed with 14 personnel, including flight nurses, flight paramedics, pilots and mechanics, and is in service 24 hours per day and seven days a week. The Bell 407 helicopter is equipped with a variety of critical care supplies and medications found in a hospital emergency room or ICU. These include items such as oxygen, airway resuscitation equipment, heart monitor/defibrillator, suction, IV pump and fluids, specialized monitor/testing equipment, ventilators, and emergency medications. Wyoming LifeFlight also provides specialized patient transports for high risk OB patients and is one of only two certified air medical stroke teams in the state.
“We are always looking for better ways to serve our patients,” added Mike McCafferty, chief executive officer, Sheridan Memorial Hospital. “Our partnership with Air Methods will do just that, with improved response times and enhanced critical care supported by the geographical range of the aircraft and the resources Air Methods has to offer.”
Air Methods has additional air medical airplanes and helicopters throughout the region – including one fixed-wing and rotor-wing in Casper, Wyo., a rotor-wing at the seasonal West Yellowstone base, and a base located in the Rapid City, S.D. region. The aircraft are fully outfitted with night vision goggle capability for greater situational awareness. Further, the aircraft have a standard suite of advanced cockpit technologies for enhanced safety operations.
