Amy Foy passes away

Canadian aviation industry stalwart Amy Foy passed away on December 26 after a battle with cancer. Amy Foy most recently directed her passion for aviation by serving as Administrator of the annual Webster Memorial Trophy Competition, a position she held for 10 years. Her passing closely follows the August 2018 death of Wayne Foy, who volunteered his time to advance the Webster Competition.
Designed to recognize Canada’s Top Amateur Pilot, the Webster Competition began in 1932 and now involves a week of flight- and ground-based testing conducted by independent judges. The 2019 finals, featuring regional winners, will be held August 19 to 23, 2019 in Dieppe, NB, and hosted by the Moncton Flight College.
Amy Foy’s role in the program included negotiating venues, hotels, banquets and travel arrangements for finalists and judges. She also coordinated application and managed the financial and prize contributions from Webster Competition sponsors, while also promoting the program throughout the country and working closely with Canadian flight schools.
Even after her retirement from the Webster Team, Foy continued to contribute by helping with the transition to new management and providing valuable advice whenever it was asked for. The Webster organization explains Foy was more than the Administrator; describing her as the backbone of the Webster Competition.
Service details have not yet be released, but they will be held in Ottawa in the near future.
