Fatal helicopter crash in Laurentians

The Canadian Press reports that the pilot of a helicopter was found dead Tuesday after crashing a day earlier in the Laurentians. An article by the Montreal Gazette explains Sûreté de Quebec and army helicopters were used to search for the pilot after not arriving Monday afternoon as planned at his destination in Mirabel, Quebec.
The fatal accident was confirmed on Tuesday by the Sûreté du Québec (Quebec national police), which noted at the time that the identity of the pilot, a resident of Rouyn-Noranda in his 50s, was not yet officially confirmed.
Early this morning, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) released a statement that investigators are being deployed to the crash site at Ivry-sur-le-Lac, around 10 kilometres from Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts. TSB also noted the incident involved a Eurocopter EC120 helicopter.
Based on information from the Sûreté du Québec, The Canadian Press explains the pilot took off from Rouyn-Noranda on Monday at 10:30 am headed for Mirabel, and that a concerned friend alerted NAV Canada after the pilot did not land at his estimated 1:00 pm arrival time.
According to The Canadian Press report, police indicated no distress call was made by the pilot. The Montreal Gazette explains a search area near Lac-St-Joseph, about 30 kilometres north of Mirabel, was established based on the last location where the pilot’s cellphone registered a signal.
