The Rolls-Royce M250-C47E engine has been selected to power the new Bell 407GXi helicopter, providing enhanced safety and reduced pilot workload, plus increased reliability and maintainability. The new engine will offer additional capability and lower maintenance costs for the iconic Bell rotorcraft.
Heli-One has signed a service center agreement with Safran Helicopter Engines for Makila MRO services. Makila services are performed at Heli-One Norway’s engine shop in Stavanger, as well as through mobile support. The agreement allows Makila 1 operators worldwide to benefit from Heli-One’s expertise in this engine type, quick turnaround times and its commitment to safety and quality.
Pratt & Whitney Canada has announced that it will provide its PT6C-67D powerplant for the engine conversion program of the UH-1H helicopter. The supplemental type certificate (STC) for the engine conversion program is held by TEMSCO Helicopters, Inc., of Alaska.
Airbus Helicopters has selected Safran’s new Aneto engine to power its Racer (Rapid and Cost-Efficient Rotorcraft) high-speed demonstrator. Twin Aneto-1X engines will contribute significantly to the new rotorcraft’s cruise speed performance of up to 400 kph. Unveiled in June 2017 at the Paris Airshow, Racer is a technology demonstrator funded by the European Commission’s H2020 research programme, through the Clean Sky 2 initiative.

Voom, an on-demand helicopter booking platform, is now joining Airbus Helicopters as part of the company’s strategy to provide new urban mobility solutions for commuters. Initially incubated in A^3, Airbus’ Silicon Valley outpost, Voom launched commercial operations in April 2017 in Sao Paulo, flying thousands of passengers over the last ten months, and plans to expand its presence this year.
Robinson has added wire strike protection provisions to its R66 options list. Available only on R66 helicopters, the provisions are FAA certified and allow for easy, bolt-on installation of Magellan’s WSPS (Wire Strike Protection System) sold separately by Magellan Aerospace, Winnipeg, Canada.
