STARS fleet will now have even greater coverage
Alberta's STARS air ambulance fleet is expanding and will provide quicker response to accident scenes along Highway 63 and elsewhere in the province. The non-profit emergency medical provider will soon accept delivery of an AW139 helicopter that is faster, larger and covers more area than the five aircraft in the STARS fleet.

UAV surge expected in Asia – on par with U.S. by 2020
According to international consultancy Frost & Sullivan, the military unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) market will mushroom throughout the decade. The firm expects the market value of UAV technology to grow by 60 per cent to $7.3 billion by 2020. The Asia-Pacific market, which until now has largely lagged behind Western nations, is expected to be a leading growth engine over the next 10 years.

Bell 429 now more versatile than ever
Bell Helicopter has announced that India's Director General of Civil Aviation has joined the growing number of countries that have approved the increased maximum gross weight for the Bell 429 based on Transport Canada's certification. India is the 10th country to approve the 500-pound increase to 7,500 pounds.

McGuinty denies seeing early warnings over Ornge
Premier Dalton McGuinty says he never saw a memo from a government lawyer who sounded the alarm about Ornge almost eight years ago. The lawyer warned in 2004 that there were problems with the original agreement that the government ended up signing with the troubled air ambulance service.

Government approach to SAR needs to be re-examined: Dunderdale
Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Kathy Dunderdale tabled 27 pages of correspondence between the province and Defence Minister Peter MacKay in the legislature last Thursday. The correspondence provides a detailed examination of search and rescue protocols and questions about why federal assets weren't used in the search for Labrador teen Burton Winters, who died after he went missing on the sea ice near Makkovik earlier this year.
