CH-147 Chinook has “hard landing” in Afghanistan

August 5, 2010, Panjawi, Afgh. - A Canadian Chinook helicopter was forced to make what military officials called a "hard landing" in southern Afghanistan Thursday, but no one was seriously injured.
The craft went down in Kandahar province's Panjwaii District, a volatile area under the command of Canadian Forces. Five crew members and five passengers were on board.
"A briefing from the Canadian Forces confirmed that a Chinook helicopter made a hard landing about 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar, CBC's Cameron MacIntosh said.
Canadian Forces representatives wouldn't speak about the condition of the helicopter, but officials said they have launched an investigation.
Hostile fire has not been ruled out, a NATO forces spokesman said.
A Taliban spokesman responsible for the south, Qari Yousef Ahmadi, told The Associated Press by telephone the helicopter was shot down with a rocket.
