Durham police warn public about laser strikes on helicopters

May 8, 2015, Oshawa, Ont. - It sounds like a problem out of a sci-fi movie, but Durham Regional Police are warning the public about the dangers of hitting their aircraft with laser beams.


Police said there were two incidents involving lasers being pointed at their aircraft in the past month.

In the first incident on March 21, at around 8 p.m., the force’s Air 1
helicopter cockpit was flooded by green light as it flew over the
Bowmanville area. Crew members usually wear protective glasses when
flying, but the beam struck one officer before putting them on, police
