Jan. 29, 2015, Aberdeen, Scotland – North Sea helicopters are “significantly” safer thanks to new offshore safety measures, an aviation regulator has reported.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said the industry has made
improvements but still has “more to do”, in a report published on
Wednesday.

It said measures including a ban on flights in extreme weather and
improved emergency breathing systems have helped improve safety.

The CAA concluded that passengers have a “considerably higher” change
of surviving future North Sea helicopter crashes thanks to the new
