STARS has starring role during long weekend

Sept. 5, 2012, Manitoba - The Labour Day long weekend was busy for Manitoba's STARS Air Ambulance program.
The helicopter, in Manitoba's skies since April 2011, responded to 11 calls.
Provincial director Jon Gogan said calls took them all around the province.
Four calls were to assist people injured in motor vehicle collisions, two were falls and the rest were hospital transfers "It was just one of those weekends," said Gogan.
"The weather was fairly nice, there was a lot of travel. This was one of those weekends where we were all the way out to Roblin and then all the way out to West Hawk Lake in the dead of night."
Meanwhile, the STARS chopper has started landing at Lyncrest Airport southeast of Winnipeg to transfer patients going to the St. Boniface and Concordia hospitals.
The helicopter still lands at James Armstrong Richardson International Airport in cases where patients are going to the Health Sciences Centre. A heli-pad is being built at HSC.
