Robertson and Firehawk to certify S-70 auxilary fuel system

February 22, 2016  By Robertson Fuel Systems

Robertson Fuel Systems is working with Firehawk Helicopters to test and certify a Conformal Auxiliary Fuel System (CAFS) for installation on commercial Sikorsky S-70 helicopters.  Firehawk is currently flight testing the aircraft, and certification is expected by the end of 2016.

A BHI Squared Helicopters UH-60A with two 100-gallon external tanks will be featured in the Static Display area (1, 2, 3) throughout HAI HELI-EXPO 2016. More information about the CAFS is available at the BHI Squared Helicopters (12636) or Robertson exhibit (8739).

Firehawk Helicopters President Bart Brainerd said that once certified, the tanks will help his company compete for contracts that mandate auxiliary fuel tanks while enhancing the aircraft’s performance with more range and mission capability.

Two CAFS tanks will provide increased range of approximately 124 nautical miles or up to 75 minutes of additional aircraft endurance. The CAFS is a crashworthy, ballistically self-sealing, single-point pressure refuelable tank.
