July 2, 2008, Stony Rapids, Sask.- Fire officials in Saskatchewan have now
either evacuated or are planning to evacuate over 1100 residents due
to forest fires.
Around 170 residents will leave their homes in Black Lake due to
smoke from the same fire threatening Stony Rapids near the
province's northern boundary.
Residents in Stony Rapids were evacuated on Sunday.
Individuals deemed high-risk in the community of Pelican Narrows
in the province's northeast are also scheduled for evacuation.
The fire burning north of that community is threatening the
highway to Sandy Bay, which was evacuated yesterday due to smoke.
Officials are getting help from personnel and water bombers from
Ontario and the Northwest Territories.
