Two die in helicopter accident in northeast Saskatchewan

October 26, 2015  By The Star Phoenix

The two men who died in a helicopter crash in northeast Saskatchewan were performing “complex and highly-specialized work” for a company contracted by SaskPower when the aircraft struck a power line.

The investigation into Thursday afternoon’s fatal crash on an island in the North Saskatchewan River near Paynton — approximately 200 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon — is entering its early stages. A 55-year-old pilot from Campbell River, B.C. and a 30-year-old passenger from Prince Albert (incorrectly identified initially by RCMP as a 35-year-old man) were pronounced dead at the scene.

The man from Campbell River, B.C. was identified Friday by the city’s mayor as Steven Wilson. | READ MORE
