Jan. 7, 2009, Richmond, B.C. – Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services North America-Langley (Vector) has been awarded a contract by Billings Air Service to perform a shorting modification on a Billings Sikorsky S-61 helicopter.

The helicopter modification and shortening process involves a number of technical disciplines including engineering, structures, fabrication and avionics/electrical; all of which will be performed by Vector’s Langley, British Columbia team. This segment of Vector Helicopter Services specializes in helicopter structures and avionics repair, overhaul and upgrades.

Elvis Moniz, Director of Operations for Vector Aerospace-Langley says, “It has been almost 10 years since we have performed this modification on the S61. The recent announcement from Sikorsky indicating their continued support of this aircraft has sparked many S61 operators to revisit modernization and available upgrades. Vector has all of the tooling, expertise and Supplemental Type Certificates (STC’s) necessary to perform aircraft shortening, as well as a number of other cost effective modifications and upgrades to this airframe.”

In addition to Sikorsky S-61 capabilities, Vector Aerospace-Langley also supports a wide variety of other helicopters including the Sikorsky S-76 and BlackHawk, most Bell light and medium models, and the Eurocopter AS350 and AS355. Complimenting Langley’s specialized capabilities are engine and component repair, overhaul and test capabilities (Vector Aerospace-Richmond), and structures, avionics, component and paint capabilities (Vector Aerospace-Alabama). As well, the company also has a second Rolls Royce model 250 engine repair facility located in Dallas, Texas.
