Aug. 12, 2008, Toronto – XL Insurance, XL Capital Ltd’s global insurance
operations, today announced the expansion of its specialty insurance
product offerings in Canada with the appointment of a new aviation
insurance team lead by Tony Trost.

Trost joins XL Insurance’s global aviation and aerospace insurance unit
as Canadian Aviation Manager, reporting to Rod Mearing, XL Insurance’s
International Aviation Manager. The International book is part of the
XL Global Aerospace division lead by Peter Bilsby, Chief Underwriting
Officer in London. The new Canadian team also includes Jim Hyatt who
joins XL Insurance as Assistant Vice President and Aviation Class
Underwriter.

Trost brings more than 25 years experience in the specialty aviation
and property/casualty insurance industry to XL Insurance’s aviation
insurance team. He joins XL Insurance from Marsh Canada Limited where
he served as senior vice president of its Canadian aviation practice.
Throughout his career, Trost has held numerous senior-level positions
with insurance brokers and carriers.

Peter Bilsby, Chief Aviation Underwriter, said: “In today’s competitive
market, Tony’s industry experience will prove to be a valuable local
resource for Canadian aviation businesses. With Tony’s team in Toronto,
our clients now have an alternative to the London Market, which they
previously relied on for their aviation coverages. Local underwriting
capabilities also offer XL Insurance the opportunity to see our
clients' operations firsthand. This enables us to be more discerning
and more efficient in the underwriting process which means we achieve a
better understanding of our clients' risks, and this benefits both our
clients and XL Insurance.”

According to Mr. Bilsby, ”Jim's unique and extensive experience as an
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, working on both fixed wing and rotor
wing aircraft, coupled with his previous underwriting experience with a
global aviation Managing General Agent will significantly enhance XL
Insurance's Aviation underwriting capabilities.”

According to Cindy Guyatt, XL Insurance’s Country Manager for Canada:
“XL Insurance’s expertise in specialty insurance lines, including
aviation, is already well known in the London and US markets. While we
have been able to offer aviation coverage through XL Insurance’s global
platform, we’re especially pleased that we now can offer brokers local
access to this expertise and offer aviation coverages from our local
admitted carrier, XL Insurance Limited.”
