Yellowhead Helicopters Ltd. acquired two twin-engine, medium BK117-B2 aircraft from STARS Air Ambulance. The purchase brings the number of multi-purpose BK 117s in the Yellowhead Helicopters Ltd. (YHL) fleet to four.

“The BK117 is still the top-performing intermediate twin in the world, four decades after it was introduced; and, with the 850-engine upgrade, these legacy B2 aircraft compete with the latest versions coming from the factory,” said Jacob Forman, CEO of Yellowhead. “Furthermore, STARS’ maintenance team took care of these aircraft like they were fine porcelain, giving the appearance that they just left the factory last week.”

Yellowhead provides a range of helicopter services from a network of bases located throughout British Columbia and Alberta. Its diverse fleet of helicopters and support equipment are available year-round with flight crews experienced in mountainous conditions and specialty services, such as long-lining and slinging, wildfire suppression, heli-skiing, seismic exploration support, wildlife tracking and monitoring, emergency support, aerial photography, and avalanche control, among other missions.

“We are so pleased that these wonderful aircraft, after decades of life-saving service, will carry on performing tasks for others while sharing the airspace with our newly introduced, state-of-art H145 helicopter fleets,” said Linda Dalgetty, CFO of STARS.
