Babcock wins North Sea helicopter contract

Babcock’s Offshore business has secured a new five-year shared contract with three oil-and-gas operators for helicopter transport in the northern North Sea.
The contract will initially see Babcock operate more than 100 helicopter flights each month from Sumburgh in Shetland, on behalf of CNR International, EnQuest and TAQA. Flights are expected to begin on July 1, 2020.
“We are delighted to welcome this new customer group to Babcock Offshore and look forward to working with them. We are committed to delivering the safe and efficient aviation support they require,” Said Simon Meakins, director, Babcock Offshore.
Babcock has served the offshore-transport sector for more than 40 years and its pilots now transport approximately 260,000 people per year to oil-and-gas platforms in the North Sea. This equated to around 26,300 oil-and-gas flight hours last year with some 100 platforms/installations/rigs covered at any one time. Babock also held a 96 per cent on-time departure rate for these operations last year.
The company holds a mixed fleet of heavy and super-medium aircraft – primarily S-92s – that are developed and engineered specifically for North Sea operations with twin engines, anti-icing technology and a range of on-board safety equipment.
