Redford says changing Edmonton medevac site not a risk

March 6, 2013, Edmonton - Alberta Premier Alison Redford says moving emergency air ambulance services south of Edmonton will not put patients' lives at risk.
Redford, in a video released by her communications office, says steps are being taken to ensure that the level of care remains the
same.
Patients from northern Alberta flown in for emergency care have been taken to the City Centre Airport, which is close to Edmonton's downtown and to major hospitals.
That changes on March 15 when medevac flights will land at the Edmonton International Airport, a 25-minute drive south of the
Alberta capital.
A group of doctors is urging the province to rethink the move, saying the extra flight time is a danger to northern rural patients.
Redford says facilities at the international airport have been upgraded and adds that the STARS helicopter ambulance is adding a
new chopper that can fly in hazardous winter weather.
