Jan. 7, 2008, Deux-Montagnes, Que. – A helicopter crashed onto a frozen lake near
Montreal on Friday afternoon, leaving three people seriously injured.

Police
say the accident happened as the aircraft was flying at low altitudes
and one of its skids touched an ice-covered lake near Deux-Montagnes, a
bedroom community just northwest of Montreal.

The helicopter came down about 450 metres from the shoreline. Nearby ice-fishermen were the first people on the scene.

"Police
managed, with the help of firefighters, to rescue the three
individuals," said Deux-Montagnes police spokesperson Marc Leduc.

Advertisment

One of the injured is reportedly in critical condition but his life is not thought to be in danger.

The
wreckage had partially sunk through the ice late Friday after the
injured were removed. Recovery crews were trying to determine how to
safely pull the damaged helicopter to shore.
