The Institute for Women Of Aviation Worldwide, described as a not-for-profit think tank dedicated to advancing gender balance in the air and space industry, outlined statistics published by Transport Canada which shows, in 2023, Canadian women grabbed 12 per cent of the 6,354 pilot licences issued by Transport Canada.

This 2023 number provided by the Institute for Women Of Aviation Worldwide (iWOAW) is 58 per cent more than in 2010. iWOAW also notes that more than half (52 per cent) of all pilot licences issued in 2023 were recreational in nature.

Transport Canada in 2023 recorded 2,980 new private pilot licences, says iWOAW, and 65 per cent of these licences went to candidates between 20 and 39 years of age.

iWOAW also points to the number of women who received a commercial or airline pilot licence reaching 334 last year, with that number being just 197 15 years ago.
