Sept. 25, 2009 – Royal Adhesives and Sealants LLC has
announced that its WS8031 Light Weight manganese dioxide cured
polysulfide aircraft sealant is the first sealant to be fully qualified
to SAE International’s aerospace material AMS3281D type 3 Class B
aircraft fuel tank sealant specification.

WS 8031 aircraft sealant is manufactured at Royal Adhesives and
Sealants Wilmington CA. facility, which is certified to the AS 9100,
ISO 9001/2000 and AS7200/1 NADCAP quality systems requirements.

Ted Clark, Chief Executive Officer of Royal, commented: “WS8031 is a
low density, sealant with a specific gravity of less than 1.05 or a 35%
weight savings over traditional aerospace sealants. The weight savings
we have achieved with WS 8031 are significant and will allow aircraft
designers to meet important weight reduction targets without
sacrificing sealant performance. As an example a fighter jet that uses
between 25 to 30 gallons of sealant for fuel tank and pressure sealing
in production would achieve a weight savings of between 100 to 150lbs”.

AMS3281D qualified aircraft sealants are used on the most advanced
military aircraft and in addition to saving weight have outstanding
resistance to aviation gasoline and jet fuel, as well as resistance to
chemicals and petroleum products common to the aircraft industry and
offers excellent flexibility and bond strength to most metal substrates
like aluminum, stainless steel, steel, advanced composites and many
coatings under extremes of temperature, weathering and stress.

Jeff Swindells, Product Manager Aerospace Sealants, also commented:
“Royal continues to lead the market in the development of advanced
light weight aircraft sealants and is the first company to be fully
qualified to all three lightweight types called out in the AMS328D
specification with WS 8030 qualified to Type 1 and WS 8032 qualified to
Type 2 and now WS 8031 to Type 3”.

Royal Adhesives and Sealants, Wilmington CA. division is focused on
serving both domestic and international clients in the aerospace and
defense market and is a leading manufacturer and marketer of
polysulfide sealants and electrical potting compounds for aerospace,
defense and marine applications and specialty epoxy coatings for
industrial maintenance applications.

High performance adhesives, sealants, encapsulants, potting compounds,
and mirror mastics make up the Royal Adhesives & Sealants product
mix. These high performance products are used in a variety of markets
including aerospace and defense, assembly, automotive and recreational
