Sandel Avionics joins forced with Korea Aerospace Industries

June 19, 2012  By Carey Fredericks

June 19, 2012, Vista, Ca. - Sandel Avionics Inc., the global leader in terrain, obstacle and wire alerting technology for helicopters, has signed a long-term supply agreement with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI). Sandel will supply its new Mil 810-G qualified Sandel HeliTAWS™ ST3453H for KAI’s new helicopter production in Korea.

Sandel HeliTAWS is the industry’s first multihazard avoidance system for helicopters that alerts against terrain, obstacles and wires, and is the only certified panel-mount solution. Incorporating Sandel’s proprietary TruAlert™ technology, HeliTAWS enables pilots to take off, cruise, hover and land at off-airport locations without triggering nuisance alerts. Exceeding the TSO-C194 compliance, HeliTAWS includes an easy-to-interpret, color, high-resolution display for 3D terrain, obstacles, flight plan and traffic overlay along with Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) compatibility.

“We are pleased that KAI has chosen our revolutionary HeliTAWS technology for its helicopter production,” said Gerry Block, CEO & President of Sandel.

Initially, HeliTAWS will be installation into a fleet of new Korea National Police (KNP) Surions—a special adaption of the Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) airframe to meet police requirements—which are currently in production.

“Sandel looks forward to significant involvement in future projects over the term of this agreement in both civilian and military helicopters,” said Jerry Henry, Director of Sales for Sandel. “We are extremely proud to be associated with a company as highly regarded as Korea Aerospace Industries.”
