Helijet offsets 900 tonnes CO2e

Nov. 16, 2009, Richmond, B.C. – Helijet International, the first private sector partner with British Columbia's Pacific Carbon Trust, has completed its first round of carbon offset purchases by retiring 900 tonnes of CO2e.

Helijet paid $22,500 to Pacific Carbon Trust covering all scheduled flights operated between March 2009 and July 31, 2009. All flights from Aug. 1, 2009 to present will be included in the next settlement, with
plans to settle monthly starting in 2010. That means all Helijet passengers flying between Vancouver, Victoria and Richmond have had their flight's greenhouse gas emissions offset, making their trips carbon neutral. To date, Helijet's contribution to Pacific Carbon Trust has had no impact on fares and ticket prices have remained unaffected.

"Helijet is committed to working with Pacific Carbon Trust to reduce our GHG emissions whenever possible," said Danny Sitnam, President and CEO, Helijet. "We're using a made-in-BC solution that reflects the interests of our passengers. It's the right thing to do for our business, and it's the right thing for the environment."

Helijet is currently working with Pacific Carbon Trust to develop plans to offset greenhouse gas emissions from other parts of their business, including air ambulance flights and ground operations.

Helijet, which began flying between Victoria and the mainland in 1986, has carried more than 1.9 million passengers in the past 23 years.

23rd year of service, has received numerous awards for outstanding customer service and safety standards.
