helijet1April 7, 2009, Vancouver – Helijet recognizes that when selecting air services, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have become an important component in passengers’ decisions. The company has been working hard over the past year to evaluate and establish a credible business partnership towards offsetting its own GHG emissions, initially, towards its helicopters operating on scheduled services between Vancouver and Victoria, all in an effort to become a “carbon neutral” air service option.

Now, Helijet has signed on to become the first private sector corporation to partner with the Pacific Carbon Trust (the PCT). PCT is this Province’s Crown corporation set up to deliver BC-based “Offsets” that will meet high standards of environmental integrity. "We feel it is important to make certain that our dollars are going towards “Made in BC” projects, which are the only kind that the PCT will source and invest into, " says Helijet.

As of March 24, Helijet began offsetting its scheduled service GHG emissions; through a planned $1.37 cash contribution (per person, per one way flight) to the PCT. (This amount is intended to equal the $25 per metric tonne that the PCT has established for International emission value offsets).

While the Government is finalizing the day-to-day operations of the PCT, Helijet will begin setting aside its off-set contributions, and will deposit them with the PCT as soon as it is able to accept such funding. From then on, the company will make regular contributions directly to the PCT, based on its ongoing ridership.

In turn, customers can be assured that this contribution neutralizes or offsets their carbon footprint, whenever they fly on Helijet’s scheduled helicopter service. At this time, Helijet does not intend to adjust its airfare levels; but rather it is investing in offsets with PCT on its passenger’s behalf.

During the month of April, Helijet will update its website, helijet.com , to report on further specific information and contacts regarding Helijet’s carbon neutral initiatives.
